23 March 2012

A clash of the Germans is set to be one of the highlights of AEGON Pro-Series Bath tennis as top seed Andreas Beck faces Dustin Brown at the University of Bath Sports Training Village today (Friday).

The pair will battle it out on court one in the €42,500 ATP Challenger Tour event in a match scheduled to get underway at midday with a place in tomorrow’s (Saturday) semi-finals at stake for the winner. Admission for spectators is free throughout the competitions.

Beck was runner-up in last season’s ATP Challenger Tour tournament at Bath. The flamboyant Brown is seeded five. The only other seed still standing in the men’s singles is Michael Berrer, another German, seeded two. He faces Laurynas Grigelis of Lithuania later today.

Bertens beat Team Bath MCTA Tennis Academy player Samantha Murray 6-0, 3-6, 6-2 yesterday.

Also starting at 11am, four seed Annika Beck of Germany faces Israel’s Julia Glushko, seeded six.

The doubles competitions reach the semi-final stage today. Dustin Brown and Britain’s Jonathan Marray, top seeds in the men’s doubles, face the British number three seed pairing of Jamie Delgado and Ken Skupski for a place in tomorrow’s final.

Four seeds Martin Fischer and Philipp Oswald of Austria take on the unseeded Czech pair of Jan Hernych and David Skoch in the other semi.

In the women’s doubles, Julie Coin of France and Melanie South of Great Britain, the top seeds, face the unseeded Slovak pair Lenka Jurikova and Kristrina Kucova.
