Two Team Bath players in Edgbaston main draw

11 June 2012

Team Bath Director of Tennis Barry Scollo was pleased to hear over the weekend that two of his top female players have made it into the main draw at the Aegon Classic at Birmingham’s Edgbaston Priory Club.

Melanie South, who recently joined the Team Bath set up, was due up first on court this morning to play Mirjana Lucic of Croatia – a quarter-finalist at the event last year – but rain has delayed the start of play.

Samantha Murray will also start in the first round with an opening match scheduled tomorrow. Murray has been one of the Team Bath-MCTA Academy’s success stories. Since arriving in Bath from a stay at an American University, she rose from being unranked to world no. 350 in the 2010-2011 season.

“To have two players in the main draw is fantastic”, said Scollo of the LTA-awarded wildcards. “I’m going up tomorrow to watch and can’t wait”.
