Clayton in Wimbledon draw

28 June 2012

Team Bath-MCTA’s Scott Clayton will be waiting with more interest than most for the announcement of the junior men’s singles draw at Wimbledon as he will feature in it this year.

Clayton, already a winner of a couple of important junior tournaments this year – including the ITF Grade 1 event at Roehampton – has been given a wildcard into the draw.

“Scott really deserves the wildcard, it is not flattery”, said Team Bath Director of tennis Barry Scollo. “He’s worked really hard this year and has made huge strides”.

Clayton also looks set to represent GB in the Summer Cup at the end of July  – the fourth time a Team Bath player will have achieved the honour.

Beth Askew, meanwhile, will start her qualifying campaign for the girls’ singles today.  Both of the Team-Bath players could also feature in the doubles.

Mel South was in a close-fought women’s doubles encounter in the main Wimbledon women’s doubles event yesterday.  Partnering Tara Moore, she went down 6-4,4-6,1-6 to Mirjana Lucic of Croatia and Valeria Savinykh of Russia.
