A very positive first league match for the ladies Bath buccaneers 1st team against Plymouth Marjons. A 4–0 win to Buccs left them top of the league table.
After a solid start in the first half Buccs conceded two penalty corners but both strikes were saved by goalkeeper Kelly Bowden and cleared of her pads by the defender Janet Gubbin.
Later on in the first half, Buccs went on the attack down the right side of the pitch leading to a cross into the D from Susie Barnes which gave the opportunity for Steph Baker to hit the ball at the goal for it to roll over the goal line past the Marjons goalkeeper.
Buccs continued to apply pressure from the solid defence up though the middle of field and were able to increase their lead just before half time, when the ball was crossed into the D from the right side again, to enable Rebekah walker to volley the ball past the keepers right hand side.
Buccs came out to start the second half determined to increase their 2-0 lead and forced Plymouth to give away a penalty corner.
Steph Baker eliminated the Marjons number one runner for a crisp reverse stick shot on goal resulting in a 3-0 lead.
Plymouth fought back with determination but could not get through the Buccs defence.
Buccs defence turned the ball over consistently and made some good counter attacks down the left side of the pitch with some good link play between Jess Rickman, Emma White and captain Helen Earle with the ball being moved quickly to open up the Marjons defence giving Vicky Warner a clear cross into the D which got deflected by one of the Marjons defenders to score under the new rules, an own goal resulting in the 4-0 win for Buccs.
