Students Union Weekly Sports Update 3

29 October 2012

Hello sporty students of Bath,

This past week has seen the commencement of our Union wide focus week (for more details go to / campaigns) culminating in a debate in the East Building 1.1 Friday 26 October at 5:15.

Student Union SportIt also saw some heavy mist descend upon campus (looking out from Level 9 of Norwood first thing in the morning and not being able to see Wessex House is always concerning), but sport isn’t one to wait for a touch of mist and drizzle.

The Surf club ran a very successful trip over the weekend, taking over 20 people to Newquay where they experienced some great surfing conditions.

On the recreational and inter-murals side of things, some interesting things have also been going on. I was particularly impressed with the Inter-Departmental Management Team. Not only did their kit have an official crest on it, they had also managed to secure sponsorship from a pub in town over the summer and had that printed on their kit also!

If ever there was an advert for how much inter-mural sport has developed over the last few years, than this was it.

Regarding the competitive side of things, we are now fifth in the BUCS table having climbed steadily up from ninth after a successful set of fixtures last week.

This week’s results also look promising and I’m confident we will continue to rise.

Today, I took time out to go for a walk around the STV and see some of our teams in action. The Netball fifth team beat Winchesters’ first team 38-33. One of our Badminton teams also suffered only their second lose in two years, it was the Women’s’ seconds against our own women’s thirds though.

Team of the week this week however goes to the Basketball Men’s First team as they recorded their first win in their Premier league history beating LSE 52-41, so congratulations to them. With special mention going to the injured first year who travelled with them and despite not being able to play, still filmed the entire match and supplied the team with water from the sideline.

It’s been a great week of results and a great week of activity generally. I’m in Manchester next week at a conference so your weekly sports update may be somewhat delayed, but in my absence we’re running a special one off themed Score, see details at our Facebook events page. Make sure you’re attending in your best fancy dress.

Time for your video fix, in light of Basketball’s Premierleague success, here is another basketball success story – enjoy.

Talk about team spirit!

Anyway, that is all from me now,
