Team Bath Buccaneers extended their West Conference unbeaten run to six games, but only managed to register a point in a 1-1 draw with Guildford on Saturday.
The Surrey side started well and should have gone ahead in the opening stages of the match. Buccs could count themselves fortunate after seeing two Guildford forwards miss clear cut opportunities within the opening fifteen minutes of the match.
These early scares seemed to wake the home side up and Jody Paul’s men then began to create a few chances of their own.
As the half progressed Buccs took control of the game and were rewarded in the 22nd minute when youngster Ben Mackey finished past Guildford’s former Great Britain keeper Simon Mason.
Guildford then enjoyed their own spell of possession and drew level six minutes later when Mike Rippon finished off a well-worked penalty corner, deflecting the ball past Tom Skinner.
Neither side were able to establish a firm grip on the game in the second half, and whilst Buccs enjoyed longer spells of possession than the visitors, they were unable to find a winning goal.
Tim Davenport, Ben Carless and George Farrant all went close but could not find a way past Mason.
The draw means Buccs slip down to third in the division, with Cardiff + UWIC replacing them at the top.
Buccs resume their league campaign in two weeks time, travelling to the Welsh capital to face Whitchurch.
