Match Report: Mens Hockey League – West Conference (Men)
Fixture: Team Bath Buccaneers v Fareham
Date: Saturday 17 November 2012
Score: TBB 5-0 Fareham
Venue: University of Bath, Sports Training Village
Team Bath Buccaneers got back to winning ways on Saturday with a five-star performance against Fareham at the Sports Training Village.
Keen to put last Sunday’s defeat to Whitchurch behind them, Jody Paul’s men ran in five unanswered goals against the South Coast side in a devastating display.
Buccs started with real intensity and were rewarded with two goals in a five minute spell early on in the match.
The first came via a huge stroke of luck when a Fareham defender deflected the ball into his own goal in the 12th minute.
There was nothing lucky about the home side’s second goal however, when minutes later Tim Davenport fired home an unstoppable reverse stick strike past Fareham keeper George Harris.
Davenport then scored from a penalty corner drag flick on the stroke of half time to give his side a comfortable 3-0 lead at the break.
Much to the despair of the away side, Buccs did not take their foot off the gas in the second half. Welsh international Ben Carless was next to get it on the act when he superbly flicked home another penalty corner low past Harris.
Davenport completed the scoring with his hat-trick goal in the 62nd minute when he flicked high past Harris to round off a fantastic team performance.
There was still time in the closing stages for Buccs to concede a penalty stroke.
Fortunately James Seagar flicked wide of Tom Skinner’s goal to give Buccs their second clean-sheet and second 5-0 win of the season.
Next Sunday Buccs play their final league match before the league breaks for Christmas when they take on Cardiff + UWIC in the Welsh capital.
