Crowned West Indoor Champions
Team Bath Girls’ U16 Team won the West Indoor Championship after a series of impressive performances at Plymouth on Sunday 16 December, winning all four of their matches.
Team Bath 1 Isca 0
In a tight game, Team Bath dominated the early exchanges and a well-taken goal from Holly Jackson ensured the side held a half-time lead.
In the second half, both sides created chances and Buccs were indebted to Eliza Matthews, Hettie Horler and Olivia Allin for stout defence as they held on for a narrow victory.
Team Bath 4 Ashmoor 2
Buccs dominated early exchanges against Ashmoor with Holly Jackson converting an early chance. Susie Barnes then provided a pinpoint cross for Jemima Pitceathly to score. Only a smart save from Nicole New just before the break preserved Buccs’ two goal advantage.
Despite a fight-back from Ashmoor after the break to halve the deficit, the best passing move of the match between Holly Jackson and Jemima Pitceathly provided a cross from which Susie Barnes restored Buccs’ two-goal lead.
Katie Humphrey then produced a clinical finish to put the game beyond doubt; Ashmoor scored a consolation goal late on.
Team Bath 3 Clifton 1
In a match that pitted the top two teams in the competition Buccs started at high tempo and a slick passing movement enabled Holly Jackson to open the scoring.
Clifton responded strongly in the second half, deservedly equalising after five minutes.
The latter stages of the second period were end-to-end, with both sides striving for a winner. Eventually, Buccs prevailed with Holly Jackson squaring for Jemima Pitceathly to score from close range.
Then with a couple of minutes to go, a well-rehearsed penalty corner routine between Olivia Allin and Susie Barnes enabled Susie to deflect the ball onto a Clifton foot to win a penalty stroke, which Olivia stepped up to coolly convert, and secure the 3-1 victory.
Team Bath 5 Dart 0
Team Bath secured the West championship with a comfortable victory over Dart.
A first half penalty corner drag-flicked home by Olivia Allin gave Buccs a first-half lead.
In the second half two goals from Susie Barnes, either side of one from Holly Jackson made the game safe, with Gabriella Chapman scoring a fifth goal late on.
Team Bath now go on to the National Championships in Wolverhampton next month.
