Bath ITC decision welcomed
British Swimming is set to reaffirm its commitment to its Intensive Training Centre at the University of Bath.
The University of Bath ITC will continue for another four years, British Swimming has announced.
It is one of four ITCs British Swimming will continue to operate following a value for money analysis linked to performance outcomes since the five existing centres opened in 2008.
The Bath ITC, which is run by head coach David McNulty and his assistant, Graeme Antwhistle, has proved among the most successful in the country.
Four Bath ITC swimmers represented Great Britain at the London 2012 Olympics, including Michael Jamieson, whose 200m breaststroke silver medal in a British record was one of three medals won by British swimmers at the Olympics. The other two, both bronzes, were won by Rebecca Adlington.
Andrew Willis broke the 200m breaststroke English record while and Siobahn-Marie O’Connor swam in the women’s medley relay final at the tender age of 16.
Since the London Games double Olympian Lizzie Simmonds has switched her training base to the Bath ITC, while Sports Performance student Jamieson collected 200m breaststroke silver at the World Short Course Championships in Turkey in December.

“David, Graeme and the team have done a great job since the launch of the Bath ITC,” he added. “We hope they will continue to build on the success they’ve already achieved and that Bath ITC swimmers will bring many more medals back to the Sports Training Village over the coming years.”
