17 February 2013

Match Report: Mens Hockey League – West Conference (Men)

Fixture: Bristol Firebrands v Team Bath Buccaneers

Date and time: Sunday 17 February 2013

Score:  Bristol Firebrands 0-3 TBB

Venue: Failand Sports Club, Bristol

Buccs made it three wins from three after the Christmas break with a convincing 3-0 win at Bristol club Firebrands.

With a number of key individuals missing through illness and international selection, Buccs travelled to Bristol looking to maintain the pressure on the sides above them at the top of the West Conference.

They took the lead midway through the first half when Tim Davenport flicked home a penalty corner after he forced the ball onto a defender’s foot. But for some committed defending from Tom Griffiths the home side may have drawn level but Buccs held on to keep their lead at the half-time break.

Buccs went 2-0 ahead in the early stages of the second half when Sam Hatherley flicked home from close range and Ben Carless made it 3-0 moments later from a penalty corner.

The visitors should have then gone on to extend their lead but wasted a number of opportunities to produce a more eye-catching score-line.

Next up for Buccs is the University of Exeter on Sunday (1.00pm).

Exeter registered a convincing 8-1 win at Cheltenham on Sunday and so Buccs will have to be at their best if they are to maintain their 100% winning run since the league restarted.

A Buccs win would see them leapfrog Exeter and climb into the top three.
