Top-flight international tennis returns to Bath – and it’s free to watch!
Top-flight international tennis returns to the University of Bath this month in the shape of the Aegon GB Pro-Series event – and you can watch the action for free.
Once again there is a strong entry for both the men’s and women’s competition when the tournament gets underway at the Sports Training Village on Sunday 10 March.
Both tournaments provide an opportunity to watch some of the rising stars of international tennis – previous winners include Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Urszula Radwanska, who both won the respective singles titles in 2006.
Indonesia’s Christopher Rungkat is the highest ranked player scheduled to play in the men’s tournament – he is currently ranked at 344 in the world.
Britain’s Ed Corrie is also contesting the men’s event – he won the Aegon GB Pro-Series events in Preston and Wirral in February and his meteoric rise has seen him climb from 518th to 385th in the ATP rankings this year. Corrie reached the men’s singles quarter-finals in Bath last year.
Former Team Bath player Richard Bloomfield also features, while current Team Bath MCTA Academy players Richard Gabb and Scott Clayton will have to go through qualifying to secure a place in the main daw.
Stephanie Vogt is the highest ranked player in the women’s entry. The Liechtenstein player, currently 214 in the world, was runner-up in the women’s doubles partnering Tatjana Malek in last year’s Bath tournament.
US player Alexander Stevenson, who was ranked 18 in the world in 2002 and is now ranked at 505, is due to feature in qualifying.
Local interest comes in the shape of Team Bath MCTA players Samantha Murray and Lisa Whybourn.
Yorkshire’s Tara Moore is also due to take to the courts. She started the year off well winning back-to-back $10K events in Glasgow & Preston and continued her good run when she won a $25K event in Arizona at the end of February.

“With the fantastic facilities at the Sports Training Village and of course, the city itself, Bath is a very popular tournament with the players and I am sure we are in for an exciting week’s tennis.
“Entry is free of charge to spectators, there is easy access to viewing, parking and catering – what better way to spot the stars of the future!”

The competitions take place on the indoor courts at the University of Bath Sports Training Village and run from Sunday 10 to Sunday 17 March and play starts at 10am Sunday 10 to Thursday 14 March and then 11am Friday 15 to Sunday 17 March.
