Match Report: Mens Hockey League – West Conference (Men)
Fixture: Team Bath Buccaneers v Whitchurch
Date: Sunday 17 March 2013
Score: TBB 5-0 Whitchurch
Venue: Millfield Hockey Centre Steet
Team Bath Buccs produced a five-star performance on Sunday, defeating Welsh side Whitchurch 5-0 at Millfield School.
Whitchurch have been a bogey side for Jody Paul’s Buccaneers in recent years and the result avenges the 2-1 defeat they suffered in Cardiff back in November.
Buccs took the lead in the 17th minute when a flowing move on the right hand side involving Shaun Matthews and Ben Mackey resulted in Tim Davenport finishing from close range. Matthews then doubled Buccs’ lead two minutes later, reacting first to a rebounded Matt Ruxton shot to smash home.
Buccs went into the half time break three goals up when Davenport exchanged passes with Tom Irons before chipping the ball over the advancing Whitchurch keeper.
Sadly for Whitchurch, Buccs continued to dominate in the second half and scored two further goals to condemn their opponents to a five goal defeat.
Firstly Matt Ruxton fired home from a penalty corner, before Ben Mackey finished on the turn to complete the scoring midway through the second half.
It was the complete performance for Buccs who will no doubt question why they couldn’t produce performances like this on a more consistent basis this season.
Buccs’ final game of the West Conference season sees them travel to Fareham next Sunday where they will hope they can finish the season with another three points.
