Results in the second half of the season hadn’t quite gone in the Buccs Ladies favour.
However, as they travelled away to Clifton for the final game of the season, they were determined to play good hockey and get those all-important three points.
Buccs were certainly the better side at the start of the match, playing some great attacking hockey. Captain Helen Earle opened the scoring in the 20th minute with an attacking run from midfield resulting in a chip over the keeper.
10 minutes later, Clifton equalised from a short corner, and a mistake in defence led to an easy put-in, to put Buccs 2-1 down at half time.
Debutant Emma Gibson certainly stepped up well to 1st team hockey and fought hard in midfield.
Janet Gubbin was a rock at right defence, and left defender Wendy Smith played some great balls through to the attack.
However, a short corner put Clifton ahead at 3-1 early in the second half, leaving Buccs with work to do.
Some great interlinking play between Bex Walker and Lara Williamson led to a great opportunity for Steph Baker to put the ball away and bring the scoreline back to 3-2.
Clifton then added one final goal in the last five minutes to end the game at 4-2.
