Judo players bring home four bronzes from Argentina

Team Bath judo players had another impressive weekend, collecting four medals at the Buenos Aires Pan-American Open in Argentina.

Gregg Varey beat fellow Brit Graham Trinder in the third place contest to take bronze in the men’s under-60kg class.

Varey found himself in the bronze medal match after losing to Russia’s reigning Olympic champion Arsen Galstyan, in his third preliminary round fight.  The Russian went on to win the title in Buenos Aires.

Ghana’s Emmanuel Nartey also struck bronze in the men’s under-73kg class. He beat another Russian Olympic champion, Mansur Isaev, in the bronze medal match.

University of Bath Business Administration graduate Tom Reed won bronze in the under-81kg class, beating Szabolcs Krizsan of Hungary in the battle for bronze.

And Ben Fletcher followed up his gold medal at the Pan-American Open in Uruguay a week earlier by taking bronze in the under-100kg class in Argentina, beating Horacio Antunes of Brazil in the third place contest.
