Shadow Minister for Sport praises facilities

29 May 2013

Shadow Minister for Sport Clive Efford MP praised the University of Bath’s sports facilities during a visit to the Claverton Down campus yesterday (Tuesday).

Mr Efford, MP for Eltham, was visiting the University to consult on what is required in a 10-year plan for school and community sport.

Before holding a discussion with around 40 delegates from the West Country at an event hosted by University’s new Institute for Policy Research, Mr Efford was given a tour of the Sports Training Village.

Mr Efford was shown the facilities at the £30 million Sports Training Village by Stephen Baddeley, Director of Sport at the University of Bath, Dr James Bilzon, Head of Department for Health, and Steve Nelson, Chief Executive of the West of England Sport Trust.

During the tour he met London 2012 Olympic silver medal winning modern pentathlete Samantha Murray, who is a French and Politics student at the University of Bath, as well as Jan Bartu, Pentathlon GB Performance Director.

Mr Efford said: “I was delighted to visit the University of Bath to see the fantastic sports facilities on offer. The university is an excellent example of how a higher education institution can open up to the local community and share its world-class facilities.

“I am extremely grateful to Team Bath for taking the time to show me around and their assistance in organising this visit.”
