Greg Sharp – Deputy Director of Sport

Greg SharpGreg joined Team Bath in 2002 as a sports development coordinator and has worked his way up to Deputy Director of Sport at the University of Bath, a role he has held since September 2013.

This role sees him lead on the Department’s contribution to the student experience, widening participation and developing sporting pathways. He line manages six of the department’s head coaches, as well as partnerships with British Triathlon and Southampton FC and building on the strong relationship with the Students’ Union.

A University of Bath Sport & Exercise Science graduate, he has always looked for personal development opportunities and graduated in 2017 from the Executive Masters in Business Administration delivered by the School of Management at Bath.

Greg was responsible for the creation of our popular Team Bath Tribe youth sport programme and works closely with our partner organisations to develop a wealth of youth pathways through curriculum-based and other projects using both on-site and outreach delivery. He also put together successful bids to Sport England for funding for the Team Bath Talent Development Centre, now known as Futures, and in conjunction with the Students’ Union, was granted funds from both the Active Universities programme and University Activation Fund. He worked closely with Brian Roper helping to secure eight years of funding for Team Bath Tribe outreach projects by Roper Rhodes that reached over 25,000 pupils.

A former footballer, he was a member of the Team Bath FC team that reached the first round proper of the FA Cup in 2002 – becoming the first University side to reach that round for more than 120 years. He coached the University of Bath women’s football team that won the BUCS title for the first time in 2005 after reaching three successive finals.

An Olympic torchbearer in the lead-up to London 2012, Greg has supported projects with the British Olympic Foundation in inspiring young people including the annual Olympic Day Run.
