Bath swimmers impress in Edinburgh

03 June 2013

University of Bath-based swimmers were in impressive form in Edinburgh at the weekend with Joe Roebuck collecting a hat-trick of titles and Siobhan-Marie O’Connor and Stacey Tadd winning a brace of golds a-piece.

London 2012 Olympian Roebuck, who transferred train at British Swimming’s Bath Intensive Training Centre earlier this year, won golds in the 100m butterfly (53.40), 200m butterfly (1:59.10) and 200m individual medley (2:02.42) at the East District Open SASA Grand Prix.

Seventeen-year-old O’Connor, another London 2012 Olympian training at the Bath ITC, also impressed in Edinburgh with double gold over 200m individual medley and 100m Butterfly.

She clocked the second fastest time of her career to win the 200m IM final by more than two seconds in 2:11.15 before setting a personal best 59.57 for victory in the 100m Fly in the final session.

The teenager was only denied a third gold by University of Bath swimmer and London 2012 Olympian Stacey Tadd who set a season’s best 1:08.79 for gold in the 100m breaststroke ahead of O’Connor (1:09.43) and another season’s best to double up over 200m breaststroke in 2:28.39.

Bath ITC swimmer Michael Jamieson won gold in the 200m breaststroke, the event in which he won silver at the London 2012 Olympics.

The competition in Edinburgh was part of preparations for the British Gas Swimming Championships in Sheffield from 26 to 30 June, which is the British qualification event for the World Championships. They get underway in Barcelona in late July.
