The seventh annual Team Bath 7-a-Side hockey event took place at the University of Bath Sports Training Village on Saturday 8 June 2013.
In the Men’s event all the group matches were close fought leading to two semi finals.
In the first home side Team Bath Buccaneers overcame neighbours West Wilts 3-1 and the other Gillingham came through an end to end thriller 5-3 over Trupac who had made the long trip from Dubai in an attempt to win the title they won in 2008.
The Final proved to be very close, ending in a 1-1 draw.
However the home side Team Bath Buccaneers held their nerve to win a penalty flick competition to take the title from Gillingham.
In the Ladies event Edgbaston proved strong with both their teams qualifying for a Semi Final clash whilst the other Semi Final saw a local derby with home side Team Bath Buccaneers taking on City of Bath.
The battle of Birmingham saw the 1st team of Edgbaston edge out their 2nd string 2-1 but Bath derby ended 2-2 after City of Bath surrended a 2-0 lead late on. Buccaneers won through on penalties.
The final was a very close encounter but the visitors Edgbaston took the title with the only goal.
Organiser and Hockey Development Manager, Nick Kendall says “this event continues to be popular with 22 teams taking part. Its good to see a mixture of local clubs and visitors from far afield enjoying some competitive but good natured hockey”
