Kirsten earns first senior GB selection

University of Bath student and athlete Kirsten McAslan has been selected for the senior Great Britain team for the first time.

McAslan, a Biochemistry student at the University, is one of four Bath-based athletes named in the GB team for the European Athletics Team Championships in Gateshead on 22 ad 23 June.

The 19-year-old receives a Santander Sports Scholarship at the University and is one of six athletes named in the British 4x400m relay squad for the championships.

McAslan lines up in a British team that also includes London 2012 Olympic gold medallists Mo Farah and Greg Rutherford.

Dai Greene, reigning 400m hurdles world champion, is also named in the squad, along with Eilidh Child. They will run their respective 400m hurdles races, with Child also named alongside McAslan in the women’s 4x400m relay squad. Both Greene and Child are coached at the University of Bath by Malcolm Arnold, British Athletics lead hurdles coach.

Danny Talbot, coached at Bath by Dan Cossins, runs the 200m and is named in the 4x100m relay squad. Talbot, Greene and Child are all London 2012 Olympians.

McAslan ran a personal best to in win gold in the 400m running for the University of Bath at the British Universities and Colleges Sport Championships in Sheffield in May.
