Kirsten named in GB World Championships team

16 July 2013

University of Bath student Kirsten McAslan has been selected to compete at next month’s athletics World Championships in Moscow.

The 19-year-old Biochemistry student was today (Tuesday) named in the GB team alongside the likes of double Olympic champion Mo Farah and Olympic heptathlon champion Jessica Ennis.

It’s only the second senior GB call-up for McAslan, who receives a Santander Sports Scholarship while she trains and studies at the University of Bath.

McAslan is named in the GB women’s 4x400m relay squad for the World Championships after finishing fifth over 400m at the British Championships and world trials in Birmingham at the weekend.

She is coached by Trevor Painter, with some support in Bath from Colin Bovell, the University’s Head Track and Field Coach.

There are also places in the GB team for Dai Greene in the 400m hurdles – he aims to retain the title he won in Daegu, South Korea two years ago, and for Eilidh Child in the women’s 400m hurdles. Both are coached by Malcolm Arnold, British Athletics Lead Hurdles Coach.

Andrew Robertson, who is coached at Bath by Dan Cossins, is named in the GB 4x100m relay squad.

University of Bath French and Politics graduate Marilyn Okoro has been selected to run the 800m at the World Championships after impressing at the weekend.

The championships run from 10-18 August.
