Congratulations to our latest athletes of the month

19 September 2013

Two world champions are among the latest Team Bath athlete of the month award winners, showing the impressive sporting talent based at the University of Bath.

The latest six winners also include a world championship medallist, a World Cup gold medallist and a double European champion.

Aquae Sulis Performance Swimming Club member Stephanie Millward received the women’s award for August after winning a remarkable four gold medals at the IPC World Championships in Canada.

Another London 2012 Paralympian, Paul Blake, collected the men’s award for June and July after winning gold in the T36 800m and silver in the T36 400m at the world championships in France.

Three modern pentathletes who train at the Pentathlon GB high performance centre at the University of Bath also collected athlete of the month awards.

Nick Woodbridge won the men’s award for August after landing the individual silver medal at the World Championships in Chinese Taipei – the first individual World Championships medal won by a British man for 20 years.

And University of Bath Sports Performance graduate Kate French won the women’s award for June and July.  Competing in her first full season as a senior, French helped Britain to gold in the team event and the team relay at the European Championships in Poland, while also achieving what was then her highest senior finish in 10th in the individual competition.

Jamie Cooke was named men’s athlete of the month for May after winning the first World Cup gold medal of his career in Hungary.

He was joined as a May winner by rhythmic gymnast Jade Faulkner, whose award followed her gold medal at the Attila Cup in Holland. Jade was a member of the British rhythmic group that competed at the London 2012 Olympics and the Attila Cup was her the first individual rather than group competition she has competed at  for three years.
Each of the athletes of the month winners receive a piece of Oakley eyewear from leading stockist Ellis & Killpartrick Optometrists of New Bond Street, Bath, and a framed photograph to mark their achievement.

Stephanie and Jade attended the athlete of the month awards ceremony to receive their awards from Oakley UK Brand Ambassador Tyron Dawkins, but the others were away from Bath and not able to attend the ceremony.

Tyron Dawkins said: “I was delighted to meet such a talented group of athletes and to congratulate them on their achievements. Once again they demonstrate the impressive breadth of sporting talent at the University of Bath.”
