Score > Exeter 3-0 TBB
Venue > Badminton School, Bristol
It was another miserable day for Team Bath Buccaneers on Sunday as they went down 3-0 at Exeter University.
Looking to bounce back from last weekend’s 5-0 defeat to Cardiff, it was not the response Jody Paul was looking for from his players.
The home side started well and took advantage of some defensive lapses to take a two goal inside the opening ten minutes.
Firstly Nick Cooper finished well from a cross from the right hand side, meeting the ball on the half volley to smash past Tom Skinner. Minutes later Josh Godfrey found himself behind the Buccs backline and finished low past Skinner to stun the away side.
Buccs had opportunities to get back into the game, winning a number of penalty corners but neither Tim Davenport nor Ed Horler could produce the flick required to reduce the arrears.
Buccs adopted a more attacking formation in the second half as they looked to get back on level terms with the hosts. They enjoyed more possession but again found chances hard to come by.
Cooper struck again for Exeter seven minutes into the second half to effectively kill off any thoughts of a Buccs fight back.
This time the Exeter forward out jumped the Buccs defence to tap a high ball into the unguarded goal.
Shaun Matthews had Buccs’ best effort to get on the score sheet in the closing stages of the match. Jinking past two defenders he struck a low reverse stick shot which was well saved by the Exeter keeper.
It was a disappointing afternoon for Buccs who have now gone two games without registering a league goal. On Saturday they travel to Birmingham University who earned a creditable draw at league leaders Cardiff on Sunday.
