Fixture > Clifton 2nds v Team Bath Buccaneers
Date > Saturday 7 December 2013
Score > Clifton 3-2 Team Bath Buccs
Venue > University of Bristol Combe Dingle Sports Complex
This was a crunch game for Team Bath Buccaneers as a win was needed to gain the promotion top spot over the Christmas break.
But Buccs started poorly, with Clifton gaining early possession and finding the back of the goal twice within the first seven minutes.
Buccs, with a change in formation and a newfound discipline, started to claw their way back into the match. Pressure from the entire team stopped any further breaks from Clifton and finally after relentless effort, Buccs were rewarded with a goal just before the half-time whistle, Lara Williamson driving hard to the base line crossing the ball across the mouth of the goal, and touched in by Lizzie Cox.
The second half started with the same high intensity, not giving Clifton an inch, man of the match Hattie Lloyd kept turning the ball over in the central areas and this finally led to the 2nd goal being scored – Lucy McNaught striking the ball outside of the D, taking a deflection off a Clifton defender brought the score to 2-2.
The point was within Buccs’ sights, when against the run of play, Clifton scored a soft goal in the last 60 seconds. This loss of 3-2 was a very disappointing result for TBB’s because it was a superb team effort and performance.
