Fixture > Bristol Firebrands 2nds v Team Bath Buccaneers

Date >Saturday 17 January

Result > 1-2

Venue > Longwood Failand

Following a hard-fought 3-2 win against Plymouth Marjons last week, Buccs were determined to make lighter work of Firebrands.

Buccs started with great momentum in a free-flowing passing game. There were some early attempts at goal with some great balls into the D and some good saves made by the Firebrands’ goalkeeper.

Buccs certainly had the upper hand and looked more attacking and aggressive than the Firebrands girls, but at half-time the scoreline did not reflect this. At 0-0, there was still a lot of work to be done.

The turning point was when a ball played into the D from Firebrands, hit a Buccs foot and deflected into the Buccs goal, to put them 1-0 down. This gave Buccs more fire in their bellies and following this they had a succession of corners, and even a flick that was saved.

However, the break came from Steph Bannister, working the ball past the keeper following some great build-up play.

The winner then came from Suzie Barnes getting the final touch on a great ball through from Lizzie Cox.

This was a fantastic team performance, which demonstrated the strength and depth of this Ladies 1st Team.
