Pozzi strikes gold at British Indoor Champs
Andrew Pozzi’s gold medal in the 60m hurdles was the pick of the Bath performances at the Sainsbury’s British Athletics Indoor Championships at the weekend.
Pozzi and former training partner William Sharman tied in the final in a dead heat in a time of 7.64 seconds, just inside the World Indoor qualifying standard.
Pozzi, who is coached at the University of Bath by Malcolm Arnold, British Athletics’ lead hurdles coach, was delighted with the win a lengthy spell sidelined with injury.
“I’m absolutely chuffed. Last year here was my last race so it’s been a really long time. I wasn’t even sure if I’d be here so I’m really pleased I’m moving in the right direction,” he said.
“I’ve missed so much training and I wasn’t sure if I’d even race never mind get near seven and a half seconds,” he added. “ I’ve got another month so I can get some more training in and drop a couple of tenths and be competitive at the World Indoors.”
Pole vaulter Lucy Bryan, coached at the University of Bath by Charles Preston, took silver behind London 2012 Olympian Holly Bleasdale with a season’s best 4.26m.
There was also a bronze over 3000m for University of Bath student Rosie Clarke. The Accountancy and Finance student, coached at Bath by Colin Bovell, the University’s head track and field coach, clocked a season’s best 9:10.99 at the championships in Sheffield.
Eilidh Child, coached by Arnold, was just run out of the medals in the 400m final, finishing fourth.
