Fixture: Team Bath Buccaneers v University of Exeter
Date and time: Sunday 16 February 2014
Venue: University of Bath, Sports Training Village
Team Bath Buccaneers got their Now: Pensions West Conference title bid back on track on Sunday, defeating Exeter University 2-1 at the STV.
After last weekend’s disappointing defeat to Cardiff, Buccaneers were intent on bouncing back with a victory and they did so with a battling performance against a strong Exeter side.
In what was a real cagey affair, it took until the closing stages of the first half for the game to really come to life. Buccs seemed to have the upper hand in the first half and they took the lead in the 29th minute when Ben Stone finished from close range.
The lead only lasted a matter of minutes however, as Exeter levelled just before the break. Nick Cooper finished superbly on the volley to deny the home side a half time lead.
Chances were again, few and far between in the second half with both sides refusing to give an inch in defence.
The breakthrough for Team Bath Buccaneers finally came six minutes from time when Loic Cerulus fed Tim Davenport, whose deflected shot found it’s way into the Exeter goal. It was Davenport’s 250th national league goal, but more importantly it was one that ensured that the Buccaneers took full points from this close contest.
Team Bath Buccaneers remain a point off the lead, as Indian Gymkhana won their match at home against Havant.
Team Bath Buccaneers host Birmingham University on Sunday at 1.00pm as they look to keep up the pressure on the London side.
