Date and time: Sunday 23 February 2014
Score: 2-3
Venue: University of Bath Sports Training Village

Team Bath Buccaneers suffered a blow to their Now: Pensions West Conference title bid on Sunday, going down 3-2 to Birmingham University at the STV.

The visitors took the lead in the 9th minute when Jonny Gooch deflected past Tom Skinner from close range.

The lead lasted only 10 minutes however as Team Bath Buccaneers drew level through Ed Horler. Horler flicked home from a penalty corner, having won the set piece himself with some fine individual skill.

Jody Paul’s side took the lead eight minutes into the second half, through Tim Davenport. Loic Cerulus had his shot saved on the line by the foot of a Birmingham defender, leaving the umpire no option but to point to the spot. Davenport flicked home to give his side a 2-1 lead.

It was a lead Buccs were unable to hold on to, as the visitors levelled shortly after. Tom Morris reacted first to a loose ball into the circle and was able to squeeze the ball past Skinner.

Both sides threw everything at trying to find a winning goal, but agonisingly for Team Bath Buccs, it was the visitors, through Ciaran O’Connell’s close range effort, that made the breakthrough.

The result pushes Buccs down to third in the division, a point behind Indian Gymkhana, who lost to new leaders Cardiff. Buccs trail them by two points.

Team Bath Buccaneers will look to get back to winning ways next Sunday when they travel to the South-Coast to take on Fareham.
