Fixture: Fareham v Team Bath Buccaneers
Date and time: Sunday 2 March 2014
Venue: Henry Court School Fareham
Team Bath Buccaneers produced the perfect response to last week’s home defeat to Birmingham, with a 6-1 win at Fareham.
Jody Paul’s side took to the game to the South-Coast side, running in five unanswered goals in the first half.
Ed Horler opened the scoring in the 4th minute with a blistering strike past George Harris. Three minutes later Ben Stone made it 2-0, finishing off a fine cross from Jack Betenson. Horler got his second in the 9th minute with a neat reverse stick effort before Tim Davenport picked up his 16th and 17th goals of the season with two clinical finishes.
Buccs continued to dominate in the second half, and should have extended their lead on a number of occasions. Loic Cerulus, Sam Hatherley and Davenport all wasted glorious opportunities as the away side repeatedly carved the hosts open.
In the 59th minute, Jack Betenson deflected Tom Griffiths’ penalty corner strike to give Buccs a 6-0 lead.
The arrears were reduced slightly in the final minute by former Team Bath Buccaneers midfielder Rob Wilson, who scored from close range to deny Buccs a clean sheet.
The performance was much needed after last week’s disappointing defeat. While Buccs were able to move up to second, they still remain two points behind leaders Cardiff who won at strugglers Guildford.
On Sunday (1pm) Team Bath Buccaneers entertain third placed Indian Gymkhana. The London side will be looking to put an end to two big defeats in recent weeks at the hands of Cardiff and Exeter University.
