Bath swimmers impress in Marseilles

11 March 2014

University of Bath swimmers produced some strong performances at the Mediterranean Open in Marseilles, their last competition before the British Championships.

Will Harrison won gold in the 200m backstroke and bronze in the 100m backstroke, both in personal bests.

Jay Lelliott (right), a Sports Performance student and Santander Sports Scholar at the University, took silver in the 200m butterfly final with a personal best time of 2:00.80 and bronze in the 400m freestyle. Tilly Gray took silver in the women’s 200m butterfly.

Mark Skimming, Team Bath’s head swimming coach, said: “This was our last meet prior to British Championships. There were lots of solid performances, with some pbs in a state of heavy training still.

“I was very pleased to see the swimmers step up a level against some tough international competition in a tough environment and we’re looking forward to the British Championships.”

This year’s British Championships take place at Tollcross International Swimming Centre in Glasgow from 10 to 15 April and is one of the main qualifying competitions for home nations for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games. Tollcross is also the Glasgow 2014 swimming venue.
