Team Bath Buccaneers produced a superb performance to defeat Indian Gymkhana 6-1 at the Sports Training Village on Sunday. The win keeps up the pressure on leaders Cardiff who won at home against Fareham.
Ben Carless opened the scoring for Jody Paul’s men in the 10th minute with an unstoppable flick from a penalty corner. Tim Davenport made it 2-0 with five minutes remaining in the first half after Shaun Matthews was fouled in the circle. Davenport stepped up to score low from the penalty spot.
Buccs continued to dominate their opponents in the second half and three goals in seven minutes killed off their London opponents. Firstly Jack Betenson was in the right place at the right time to finish from close range before debutant Josh Norton scored with a rebounded effort. German midfielder. Nik Rieger then deflected home Davenport’s cross to give Team Bath Buccaneers a 5-0 lead.
Jan Martin pulled a goal back for Gymkhana with a classy finish with ten minutes remaining, before Davenport rounded off the scoring with a blistering strike into the top corner.
Team Bath Buccaneers remain two points off Cardiff with two games left to play and travel to Cheltenham next Sunday as they look to keep up the pressure on the leaders. Cheltenham had a fine 5-1 win over Birmingham University on Sunday, so Buccs will need to be at their best.
