Match Report: West of England Womens League – Premier Division

08 April 2014

Fixture: Taunton Vale v Team Bath Buccaneers
Date: Saturday 4 April 2014
Score: 3-2
Venue: Taunton Vale Sports Club

Team Bath Buccaneers Ladies visited Taunton Vale in their last match of the season. The first half was evenly matched with few chances at either end.

TBB started the second half slowly, and Taunton Vale took advantage winning an early penalty corner, despite Buccs saving the initial strike, Vale scored from the breakdown. Team Bath Buccaneers responded immediately and good work by Lucy McNaught on the right wing resulted in a low cross that was converted by Susie Barnes’ first time strike.

Despite looking threatening and playing some good hockey, with Pippa Barnes prompting from the midfield, Taunton Vale were able to take advantage of a couple of defensive lapses to take, and then extend their lead, despite Kelly Bowden making a number of sharp saves.

Trailing 3-1, Team Bath Buccs finished strongly.

Quick thinking by Susie Barnes and Lucy McNaught resulted in quick free hits being taken around the circle and Lucy McNaught was able to fire a low shot past the Taunton keeper. Despite the lift this gave to the team, there was not enough time for Team Bath Buccaneers to level the scores and the final score was 3-2 to Vale.

Despite this loss Team Bath Buccaneers finished in the runners-up spot in the league which is a good platform for a promotion effort next season
