Athletes of the month are recognised

29 April 2014

An Olympian, a World Cup medallist and a British Universities champion are the latest Team Bath Athlete of the Month Awards winners.

Bobsleigh athlete John Jackson won the men’s award for February after driving the British four-man bob to fifth place at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games.

The GBR1 crew of Jackson, Stuart Benson, Bruce Tasker and Joel Fearon, finished just 0.11 seconds off the bronze medal over four runs.

It was a particularly impressive performance from Jackson, who had to battle back from a ruptured Achilles he sustained seven months before the Games.

Judo player Gary Hall was named winner of the men’s award for March after taking silver at the Pan American Open in Argentina, his first World Cup level competition.

And the women’s winner for March is tennis player and University of Bath Sports Performance student Alex Walker. She won the women’s singles title at the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) Individual Tennis Championships and also helped the women’s team to the team title for the third year in a row.
Each athlete of the month winner receives a piece of Oakley eyewear from leading stockist Ellis & Killpartrick Optometrists of New Bond Street, Bath, and a framed photograph to mark their achievement.

Tyron Dawkins, Oakley UK Brand Ambassador, and Mark Wilkinson, Sales Manager at Ellis & Killpartick, presented the awards.

Tyron Dawkins said: “I’d like to congratulate the winners of the latest Team Bath athlete of the month awards. It was great to have the opportunity to meet them and recognise their achievements.

“Both Oakley and Ellis & KIllpartrick are pleased to support the awards, which have once again demonstrated the impressive sporting talent at the University of Bath.”
