Welsh lifter to contest third Commonwealths

04 June 2014

Welsh weightlifter Natasha Perdue, who does some of her training at the University of Bath, will contest her third Commonwealth Games in Glasgow this year.

The 38-year-old has competed at two of the three Commonwealth Games to feature women’s weightlifting, finishing fifth in the under-63kg weight division at Melbourne in 2006 and 12th at under-69kg at the Delhi 2010 Games representing Team Wales.

She also competed for Great Britain at the London 2012 Olympics, finishing 12th in the under-69kg competition.

Perdue contests the under-69kg division in Glasgow this summer and was named as a member of a seven-strong Welsh weightlifting team today (Wednesday).

She becomes the third weightlifter with University of Bath links to be chosen to compete at Glasgow 2014 following the selection of Zoe Smith and Sonny Webster by England last week.

Her selection also takes the total number of athletes with University of Bath links selected for Glasgow 2014 to 33, with athletes competing in seven sports for seven different countries.

A full list of selected athletes is available on the Glasgow 2014 pages of the Team Bath website.

There is further information about the Welsh team at Glasgow 2014 on their website.
