Competition: Team Bath Masters Hockey Challenge
Date: Saturday 14 June 2014
Venue: Sports Training Village

The popular annual Masters Hockey Challenge took place at the University of Bath Sports Training Village on Saturday in excellent conditions.

In the Ladies event 4 sides competed in a a round robin format with holders BAC successfully defending their title staying unbeaten with a high tally of bonus point goals.

In the Men’s event 7 teams competed in two Groups leading to the top two contesting the Cup Semi Finals.

In the first match home team Team Bath Buccaneers proved too strong for local rivals City of Bath with a 3-0 win. However the other match was closely contested with Cirencester overcoming Bristol & West 5-4 on penalty flicks following a 1-1 draw.

Two very tired teams could only draw 0-0 in the final but Cirencester’s expertise on flicks enabled them to take the title 4-2 from Team Bath Buccs.

The Men’s plate had to be shared as both Yate and Bridgend had identical records in the play off section.

Organiser and University of Bath Hockey Development Manager, Nick Kendall says, “It was another successful event which produced a first time winner of the Men’s event in Cirencester, who have been regular competitors over the years.

“BAC have proved their expertise in this format over the past two years so the gauntlet is laid down for fresh challengers next year.”
