Second Commonwealth call-up for Team Bath’s Hutchison

17 June 2014

Team Bath’s Lynne Hutchison has been named amongst a 13-strong England gymnastics squad to compete at this summer’s Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

The 19 year-old trains at Team Bath’s Sports Training Village with coach Sarah Moon. She is also a member of the City of Bath Rhythmic Gymnastics Club.

For Hutchison, who took up gymnastics aged six, Glasgow is a second Commonwealth Games call-up. She competed in Delhi in 2010 and won bronze in the rhythmic gymnastics all-round team event.

Hutchison was also one of six University of Bath-based gymnasts who made history in 2012 when they became the first team to represent Great Britain in the rhythmic gymnastics group competition at an Olympic Games.

“Today’s selection is a wonderful achievement for Lynne”, said Moon. “I feel proud and privileged to have worked with Lynne towards these major events”.

Hutchison, who has battled back from injury this season to win her Games place, attended Combe Down Primary School and is currently a student at King Edward’s School. Her family still lives locally.

The addition of Hutchison to yesterday’s England athletics selections means that more than 50 Bath-connected athletes from eight sports and eight countries will take part in Glasgow 2014. Amongst them are 10 current University of Bath students and 20 graduates.
