British pentathlon team targets World Championships

Great Britain’s modern pentathletes, who train at the University of Bath, are competing at the World Championships in Poland this week.

Pentathlon GB has its National Training Centre at the University and the 10-strong team for the championships features a number of current students and graduates.

In the men’s competitions Joe Choong (Mathematics), Sam Curry (Politics and International Relations) and Tom Toolis (Sport and Exercise Science) are current students. Joe Evans and Jamie Cooke also contest the men’s competitions.

Among the women are four University of Bath graduates – former world champion Mhairi Spence (Coach Education and Sports Development) and London 2012 Olympic silver medallist Samantha Murray (French and Politics), feature along with Kate French (Sports Performance) and Freyja Prentice (Biology). They are joined in the women’s team by Alice Fitton.

The World Championships begin in Warsaw on Monday (1 September) and conclude on Sunday (7 September).
