New challenge for Commonwealth swimming stars

Some of Bath’s swimming stars of the Commonwealth Games will return to action at the European Championships in Berlin later this month. Eighteen-year-old Siobhan-Marie O’Connor, who won six medals including a gold for England at the Glasgow Games, features in the 23-strong British team for the Europeans. Athletes linked to the University of Bath produced some terrific performances at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games winning 27 medals - five golds, 14 silvers and eight bronzes. University of Bath graduate Heather Olver collected her second silver medal on the final day of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games. There were silver medals for University of Bath graduates Danny Talbot and Zoe Shipperley on the penultimate day of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games today (Saturday). Sports Performance graduate Talbot helped England to silver in the 4x100m relay in the final event of the Games on the Hampden Park track. Shipperley set for hockey medal

University of Bath Sports Performance graduate Zoe Shipperley is guaranteed at least a silver medal with the England hockey team at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games after they beat New Zealand in a tense semi-final this afternoon (Friday). The game was all-square at 1-1 after the Kiwis scored a last-gasp equaliser, but England went through 3-1 in the penalty shoot.
