McGregor has eye on Excellence

09 December 2014

Renee McGregor is looking forward to enhancing Team Bath’s status as a sporting centre of excellence after being appointed as Sports Science and Medicine Manager.
The role will see her coordinate the delivery of physiotherapy, sports science, nutrition, psychology and strength and conditioning support to athletes across all sports at the University of Bath, from students in the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) teams to the elite athletes who use the world-class facilities at the Sports Training Village.
“I want to really push Team Bath forward as a very high quality service, which people come to because we are a centre of excellence,” said Mrs McGregor.
“Basically I will be the performance coordinator, making sure all sports at the university get the delivery they need from practitioners.
“There are 20 of us in the team – physios, physiologists, massage therapists, nutritionists, psychologists and administrators. We continue to have strong partnerships with TASS (Talent Athlete Scholarship Scheme), Southampton Football Club Academy and the MCTA Team Bath Tennis Academy.
“I am also developing links with partners like British Athletics and EiS [the English Institute of Sport], as well as the links we already have with the university’s Department for Health.
“I enjoy working with such a wide range of coaches and athletes. I get most satisfaction when I
see an athlete who we have started working with as a junior achieve their goal and reach something like the Commonwealth Games. We get to see them develop at first hand and have an input into that.”
Mrs McGregor, who moved to Bath from West London in 2003 to work as a specialist paediatric dietician at the RUH, continues to be the lead sports nutritionist with Team Bath which she has performed for the past three years.
She is married with two children and runs with Team Bath Athletics Club, with whom she is preparing for the 2015 Virgin Money London Marathon having recently completed a 50-mile ultra-marathon.
