A Take Me Out evening featuring sportspeople from the University of Bath is one of several events taking place to raise funds for a coaching trip to Zambia.
A host of sporting tournaments are also being organised by the four University of Bath students taking part in the UK Sport IDEALS programme this summer.
Second-year students Alice Evans, George Lavender (both sports performance) and Jade Traynor (sports science) will be joined by first-year sport and social science student Abi Masters on the International Development through Excellence and Leadership in Sport project.
They will spend six weeks in Africa in groups of two, working in villages and delivering PE lessons in schools, as well as setting up sport competitions between neighbouring communities.
To pay for the trip, the quartet must raise £4,400 as a group plus an additional £700 individually to cover the cost of their flights and other expenses.
They have already done a sponsored cycle ride and cake sale but are stepping up their efforts in 2015, starting with a sporting tournament in Founders Hall on Saturday, January 31.
There will also be a rowing challenge in the Sports Training Village on Wednesday, February 4; mixed netball tournaments on Friday, February 6 and Friday, March 20; and a football tournament on Saturday, February 21.
And they will provide pre-match entertainment for the Team Bath Netball Superleague home matches against Surrey Storm on Monday, February 9 and Manchester Thunder on Monday, March 23, including a cake sale, raffle and shooting challenge.
But the fundraising highlight promises to be a Valentine’s event based on the ITV dating show Take Me Out, taking place in the Chancellor’s Building from 7-9pm on Friday, February 13.
