Paul Blake sets up 400m final showdown with Russian rival at IPC World Championships

Paul Blake is safely through to Friday’s T36 400m final at the IPC Athletics World Championships in Doha.

The 25-year-old, coached by Rob Ellchuk at the University of Bath, won the second semi-final in 56.62 on Thursday morning.

Evgenii Shvetcov, Blake’s main rival for the gold medal, took the honours in the first semi in 57.65.

Blake won the 400m title at the 2011 World Championships but had to settle for silver behind Shvetcov in Lyon two years ago.

This year’s final is scheduled for 2.16pm BST on Friday.

Two-time World Champion Blake is joint captain of a British team which also includes training partner Sophie Kamlish.
