Olympian Amy Wilson Hardy to captain GB as Rugby Europe 7s series reaches a climax

22 September 2016

University of Bath graduate Amy Wilson Hardy will wear the captain’s armband when the final round of the Rugby Europe Grand Prix Sevens Series takes place in Malemort, France this weekend.

She is one of three England players who represented Team GB at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games in a squad that also features a number of debutants.

While England players were part of two mixed GB squads for the first leg of the series in Kazan, Russia, prior to the Olympics, England will now play as GB Lions and Wales will field a squad as the GB Royals.

With the GB Lions seeded third in the Series, they have been drawn in Pool C and will face Ireland, Italy and Belgium in the opening rounds.

Wilson Hardy, who played for the University women’s team while studying Integrated Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, narrowly missed out on a medal in Rio as the GB squad finished fourth overall on the sport’s Olympic debut.
