Bath Rugby call up 13 University of Bath students for Premiership A League opener at The Rec

01 September 2017

A fantastic 13 University of Bath students have been named in the Bath Rugby United 22 for tonight’s opening match of the 2017-18 Premiership Rugby A League season against Saracens Storm.

Eight of them are in the starting XV for the game at The Recreation Ground (5.30pm), including full-back Darren Atkins at full-back, wing and Trendell Sporting Scholar Levi Davis, centre Craig Duncan and scrum-half Will Flinn.

Will Britton, captain of the University’s IKON Construction-sponsored BUCS Super Rugby team, partners fellow student Scott Russell in the second row, while Santander Sporting Scholar Jack Davies and Josh Bayliss start at blindside and openside flanker respectively – Bayliss contested the World Rugby U20 Championship final with England during the summer.

On the bench are Arthur Cordwell, Bradley Packham, Chris Barry, Robbie de Bruyn and Will Partington. Click here to see the full Bath United team selection (external link).

It is the biggest-ever call-up of student players to a Bath United squad and is another demonstration of the thriving link between the University of Bath and Bath Rugby.

The University men’s squad began their pre-season training this week with a visit to Bath Rugby’s headquarters at Farleigh House.

There will also be a suggested donation of £2 on the game for each of Bath United’s Premiership Rugby A League fixtures. All the funds from these donations will go towards Bath Rugby Foundation.
