Fed Cup tennis and Pentathlon GB ranking competition provides Super Saturday of sport at University of Bath

08 February 2019

It will be a Super Saturday at the University of Bath this weekend as the Sports Training Village hosts both the final day of the Fed Cup tennis and the second Pentathlon GB ranking competition of 2019.

A wonderful week of international competition on the transformed indoor Team Bath Tennis courts will come to an exciting conclusion when the promotion play-off match between the two group winners is played at 4.30pm – the victors will earn a coveted place in the World Group II stages.

Running alongside the tennis will be a multi-sport modern pentathlon ranking competition featuring aspiring Tokyo 2020 Olympians, with competition taking place in the London 2012 Legacy Swimming Pool, the fencing salle and on the outdoor athletics track.

Spectators will be able to watch the run-shoot action from the balcony outside the Sports Café.

Among those competing are Joanna Muir and Joe Choong, who won gold and bronze respectively at the Budapest Indoor Competition last week.

MJ Church Ambassador Choong, who also claimed European bronze last year, will be joined in the men’s event by current World Champion Jamie Cooke, World Championships team silver member Myles Pillage and Junior European Men’s relay medalist Bradley Sutton.

The women’s field will see European medalist Kate French, U24 Euros bronze medallist Jess Varley and reigning Junior European women’s relay champions Zoe Davison and Charlie Follett all in action.

The ranking competition is part of the selection process for the international season, which includes the Modern Pentathlon European Championships – a Tokyo 2020 Olympic qualifying event – being staged at the University of Bath from August 6-11 2019. Tickets are going on sale soon and more information about the event is available by clicking here.

As well as a massive day at the Sports Training Village, Team Bath Netball are also in Vitality Superleague action on Saturday (6pm) when they visit Loughborough Lightning – click here to read a preview.
