Team Bath’s Liam Broady is through to the third round of qualifying at the French Open after a titanic match with Dutch right-hander Botic van de Zandschulp.

Broady came through in two tie-break sets but the left-hander, whose training base is at the University of Bath, had to save set points in the second before closing out the match 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (10-8) on the famous Roland Garros clay.

Broady, coached at Bath by Dave Sammels, now faces Australian Marc Polmans who is ranked almost one hundred places above him.

Earlier Team Bath’s Samantha Murray Sharan took the second set of her first round qualifier  in the women’s singles to a tie break but missed out to Australia’s Arina Rodionova in just over an hour and 30 minutes on the clay by 3-6, 6-7.
