Experience life as a Team Bath Futures athlete by coming along to free talent development taster day during February half-term

25 January 2023

Young athletes looking to progress in their sporting journey are being invited to attend a free Team Bath Futures Athlete Development programme taster day during the February 2023 half-term.

Taking place at the Team Bath Sports Training Village (STV) from 9-11am on Thursday 16th February, the session is open to all aged between 10 and 18 who compete in sport or show great athletic potential.

Futures athletes access bespoke weekly coaching sessions in Team Bath’s world-class facilities, designed to maximise gains and reduce the risk of injury at each stage of their growth and maturation. The programme has two levels, Blue and Gold, allowing athletes to progress as they develop. Sessions focus on strength and conditioning as well as speed and power, while athletes also have access to a niggle clinic and physio support to prevent injury.

Swimmer Sophie York, who is currently is a Team Bath Futures Blue Athlete, said: “I enjoy coming to Futures. It is fun because I get to try new things and the sessions are adapted to my needs as a swimmer and a para-athlete. I have felt the benefit in learning how my body works and that has had an impact in my performance in the pool.”

BMX biker Ned Penny (pictured top), who is a Team Bath Futures Gold Athlete, added: “Futures has helped me develop my BMX performance, especially with my starts where power is crucial. The coaches are creative in finding new ways to challenge me and the sessions in the high-performance gym are a great training environment.”

Futures athletes in the 2023 cohort compete in such diverse sports such as rock climbing, skiing, hockey, kayaking, netballrugbyswimming and much more.

The free taster day will include an overview of the programme and a strength and conditioning taster session, as well as the opportunity to ask questions. Anyone wishing to attend – including parents and coaches – is asked to register their interest by emailing Futures Development Officer Julia Waldron on futures@bath.ac.uk.
