07 February 2023

The University of Bath is this week hosting ITF World Tennis Tour (WTT) M25 and W25 tournaments, the fourth event on the LTA’s 2023 Performance Competitions Calendar for professional players.

The international tournaments provide significantly-enhanced opportunities for British players at each age and stage of the performance player pathway – all on home soil.

The Bath event – hosted on the indoor courts at the Team Bath Sports Training Village – is featuring 19 British men in the singles main draw and 11 in the women’s. Sonay Kartal, ranked 203 in the world, headlines the women’s draw and has experience of lifting trophies at Team Bath having won the UK Pro League event there in 2021.

Her first-round opponent is 17-year-old Talia Neilson Gatenby, who Kartal beat 5-7 6-3 6-2 in the ITF W25 Birmingham final a year ago this week. Other British women’s wildcards include Jasmine Conway, Emily Appleton and Danielle Daley.

Defending champion Dan Cox, Aidan McHugh, M25 Loughborough runner-up George Loffhagen and ITF M25 Sheffield Champion Daniel Little are all competing in the men’s draw this week.

The tournament is free to watch for spectators, with play getting under way at 10am. Doubles finals are scheduled for Saturday 11th February, with the singles finals taking place the following day.

The action is also being streamed live on the LTA YouTube channel – click here to watch.
