Team Bath Gyms set to relaunch this summer after over £450k investment
The University of Bath’s Sports Training Village (STV), recognised by UK Sport as one of just eight Elite Training Centres in the UK, has received an investment of over £450k into its Team Bath Gyms.
Team Bath has extended its partnership with Matrix Fitness as the official supplier for this project which encompasses all three of the spacious Gyms within the STV, covering a total area of 1,536m2 – making it one of the largest Gyms in the South West of England.
The STV – an inspirational sporting environment which is home to students, elite athletes, Olympians and Paralympians, and which also caters for and welcomes staff and the public – is set to open its refurbished and improved Gyms at the end of June/beginning of July 2024.
The Gyms will offer more than 200 stations, including the latest in cardiovascular and resistance machines. In addition, the Gym & Fitness Centre offers a Spin Studio with 24 brand-new Matrix bikes and the Group Exercise Studio, which accommodates up to 28 people.
The new kit, powered by Matrix Fitness, has been carefully selected, taking into consideration the valuable feedback from Team Bath’s Gym members and their specific requirements. Every piece of existing kit, with the exclusion of cardiovascular, has been replaced and the brand-new kit includes:
- Three additional wooden lifting platforms (taking the total to 17 platforms);
- Upgraded dumbbells and plates, increasing the quantity of both;
- Two new chin and dip assist machines;
- The highest-spec cardio machines and state-of-the-art resistance machines;
- An extended rig and TRX Bay, due to the popularity of this workout.
The reconfiguration of the Gyms has also allowed for the creation of more space for members to work out, with significantly more open space created in the centre of Gym 2. The layout of the Gyms will allow for distinct zones for upper body/free weights; a rig area; platforms and racks; a cable-machine corner; and a plate-loaded and cardio area.
The Gyms are designed with accessibility in mind, with adequate space around the machines which allows for wheelchair access. There is a hand bike located in Gym 3 and alongside our popular touch-screen consoles, there are also LED consoles which have an interface that anyone can use.
Our highly-experienced Personal Trainers and Health & Fitness Coaches will be on hand when the Gyms re-open to assist members with the new pieces of kit and to ensure that they feel comfortable and supported learning how to use and get the best out of the new kit.
Health & Fitness Manager Sam Holmes said: “This significant financial investment will enable us to take what is already a first-class facility to the next level. Feedback from customers has been the key driver in this refurbishment, which covers a range of zones across all three Gyms.
“If weightlifting is your workout of choice, we have increased the number of lifting platforms to 17 alongside increasing the amount of both bumper and cast-iron plates. Due to the success of the TRX Bay in Gym 3, we have expanded this area by adding an additional bridge to allow more customers to enjoy suspension training.
“I love teaching Ride and the unique Coach by Colour feature on the new Matrix bikes allows an easy-to-follow session. The sea of coloured screens looks impressive and when the colours change in the workout it gives the customer a feeling of accomplishment and satisfaction, knowing that they are progressing.
“I believe that what we have created will ensure we continue to be the go-to Gym in Bath and I am looking forward to seeing how it will play a part in the customers’ fitness journey.’’
