Barry Scollo – Director of Tennis
Title: Director of Tennis
Date and Place of Birth: 1980, Turin, Italy
Barry’s successful tennis career began on the Junior ITF circuit where he achieved a ranking inside the top 100, superseded by a senior ATP singles and doubles ranking. Fluent strokes, a punishing slice backhand and natural athleticism made Barry a tough competitor to beat.
After two years on tour and training with World top 100 players in Italy, where Barry originates from, he moved to the University of Bath to focus his attention on developing his coaching skills and theoretical knowledge of the game. He completed a degree in Sports Development and Coach Education, followed by a Masters Degree in Coach and Sport Education.
During his time at University, Barry’s tennis career thrived and he proved to be an invaluable member of the British University’s unbeaten USA Tour in 2004 while also competing for the University of Bath Men’s 1st team for five consecutive years. This won Barry a University ‘Full Blue’ for outstanding contribution to tennis.
While studying, Barry also began his role as a performance coach working on a part-time basis with the Bath LTA National Academy, moving to a full-time position in 2005. He then became Director of Tennis at the University in 2007.
Barry is also heavily involved with The LTA’s University student tennis programme and captained GB to a first-ever gold medal at the Master’U BNP Paribas world team tennis tournament in 2017 – one of five medals won in successive years from 2015.
