Jacob combined studying for a degree in Sport & Social Sciences at the University of Bath, where he was supported by a Trendell Scholarship, with developing into an international athlete.

A 400m hurdler, he took bronze at the 2013 European Junior Championships and won back to back English Schools Championships titles in 2012 and 2013.

He won bronze, silver and gold during his three years representing Bath at the BUCS Nationals and, since graduating, was selected to compete at the 2018 Commonwealth Games before claiming his first British senior 400m hurdles title in 2019.
