Peter Bush – Head Badminton Coach
Title: Head Badminton Coach.
Date and Place of Birth: 1967, Bradford on Avon, Wiltshire.
Former international Peter, who won 13 caps for England during his playing career, has been leading the badminton programme at the University of Bath since 1998 and has helped a host of players achieve BUCS and international success during that time.
Peter, who was ranked number two in England in 1993 and had a highest world ranking of 31 in 1991, graduated from Chelsea School of Human Movement in 1989 with 2:1 BSc Honours degree in Sports Science. He was then a player-coach for Kristiansand badminton club in Norway from 1989 to 1991 before moving to Denmark, where he was based until returning to the UK in 1998 to set up a Badminton England High Performance Centre at the University of Bath.
Peter became the University’s Head Badminton Coach in 2005, running the student set-up alongside the High-Performance Centre. His other coaching roles have included World Class Potential Cell Coach (2000-06), National U17 Age Group Coach (2001-06) and Avon County Junior Coach (2002-06).
Among the players Peter has coached are Richard Vaughan, a former world no 15 who won bronze at the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester; national men’s singles champions Nick Kidd and Alex Lane; London 2012 Olympian Hadia Hosny El Said; and GB international medallists Heather Olver and Mariana Agathangelou.
